I haven’t been out with my camera lately since I’ve been working a lot. So I’m going to show you some more photos of the drive through wildlife safari I visited about three weeks ago. It was a hot day and a wonderful place to visit. I had a blast! It’s located in Oregon. Enjoy! I just loved the zebras!

About a week ago I wrote a post regarding my weight loss plans and goals. I’d stepped on the scale for the first time in a while and the number I saw was dangerously close to a number I am just not ok with at all. So I made the decision it was time to get serious and make the weight loss happen. My goal was/is to start out with working out on my elliptical machine four days a week and increase the duration of workouts and number or days a week slowly. I made the four times last week and have two under my belt for this week so far. And I’ve been eating even better food choices, working hard at cutting out calorie empty snacks from the vending machine at work and not buying any potato chips at the grocery store that will just get eaten way too fast. And the payoff is… I’m down 3 lbs in the last week! (Weighing myself on the same scale, same time of day, same day of the week.) I’m always telling my patients at work we’ll take any progress in the right direction we can get. Now it’s time to apply that to my personal life and be happy with this step in the right direction. It’s only a small portion of what I have to get rid of, but it’s a start. So I’m happy. :)

This is number two in a series of shots I took recently at a drive through wildlife safari. Such a fun place! I definitely plan on going back. It was a hot day so the animals were tired.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve slowly and gradually just kept putting on more weight. Poor food choices and not enough exercise is the reason. And I know what to do about it. Eat better food choices and get more regular exercise. I have a great elliptical machine in my living room I really need to make more use of. And over the past year I have been improving my eating habits but still have a ways to go. Anyway, tonight I stepped on the scale and saw that I’m now very close to a weight I consider just unacceptable for myself. I’m not comfortable revealing the exact number here, but it’s much more than is healthy for a person of my height. Reading that number on the scale felt like a wakeup call. Enough is enough. I can change this. It is within my control. In fact, I am the only one who can change it. So I need to find some self discipline and stop buying potato chips at the store. No more sugary, empty calorie snacks from the vending machine at work, no more fast food for breakfast on the way home from work because it was a hectic night and I need some “comfort” food. And as for the exercise, well, just DO it! I did make use of the elliptical machine tonight and my goal is to start with four nights a week and increase both the duration of the workout and number of days a week slowly. I’m announcing this publicly this way, I guess, so I have to be a little more accountable for my behavior when it comes to losing weight. I know what I need to do… and this wakeup call was hopefully the motivation I need to do it. Wish me luck!

Earlier this week I had a day free with no plans. It was a beautiful, sunny summer day. A wonderful day for a drive. And there is a drive through wildlife safari about an hour from my house that I’ve been hearing about but never been to visit. So I thought it was high time I go visit this place. I thought at the very least I’d get some fodder for future Camera Critters posts. And boy did I! I have enough shots for several weeks worth of posts. I had a fabulous time and will definitely be going there again. This is the first of the series of shots from the visit there…

This guy was hiding out in the shade since it was a hot day.

I had a wonderfully fun day today. There is a drive through wildlife safari about an hour away from my house that I’ve been meaning to go visit and explore. I had nothing else to do today, so on the spur of the moment, I went there. I figured I would manage to get lots of fodder for future camera critters posts, right? (And I did!) I had a fabulous time watching all of the animals. While I was there, I stopped by the garden and visitors area where there’s a cafe, gift shop, and camel rides available. I’ve ridden horses. Rode a cow once. Even ridden an elephant once. But never a camel. So, I figured it was time to! This is a poor scan of the photo the staff there took. Just for posterity sake, ya know.

In the condo where I live, the owner I’m renting from does not allow me to have pets. This is the first time in a very long time I’ve been without a pet, and I’m missing having a cat… or two… around the house. But I have a sweet kitty who belongs to a neighbor of mine who comes to visit frequently. Earlier this week I was sitting out on my back patio in the evening and Bacardi (the friendly neighbor kitty) came to visit me. He was in a restless mood, though, and didn’t stay very long. I snapped this shot of him sitting on the railing of the patio just before he jumped down to go explore the lawn some more. He’s a handsome boy, isn’t he?
